Skid Row bassist Rachel Bolan shared an update on the band’s ongoing search for a new singer to replace Erik Grönwall. The band has narrowed hundreds of submissions down to several potential candidates. Bolan also joked that they would happily consider Steven Tyler if he wanted the job.
“It’s going, man. We’re pretty keen on a couple of people right now. We received about 400 video submissions that we’ve gone through, and there have been 25 outside of the Sweetwater campaign, you know, just word-of-mouth kind of things. We’ve come across four or five people we thought might work,” Bolan said.
“For the most part, no one knew Erik [Gronwall, singer from 2022 to 2024], but it worked out great. We’re not worried about or looking for someone with celebrity or history. But sure, if Steven Tyler came along and said, ‘Hey, let me sing!’ we’d be like, ‘Okay!'”
The band is still moving through its search. The comments also reflect a longer history of turnover in the singer slot and a recent, highly public audition process.
Skid Row was first fronted by Sebastian Bach during its breakthrough years. The band then cycled through Johnny Solinger, Tony Harnell and ZP Theart before Erik Grönwall joined in 2022. Grönwall left in March 2024 because of health issues tied to leukemia treatment. He said he needed to prioritize his recovery.
The current search has been tied to a Sweetwater campaign. Submissions opened on February 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. ET. This underscored how broad the band’s hunt has been.
Tyler’s name came up as a joke. His situation makes a return to full-time fronting unlikely. Aerosmith said Tyler’s voice was permanently damaged by a vocal cord injury. The band was retiring from touring.
Aerosmith framed that decision as final for the road. The band said, “a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible.” The group called retiring from the touring stage “a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision.”
Bolan’s point remained the same. Skid Row is looking for the right fit, not a celebrity name. The band’s search has already produced several serious options. The final choice will likely come from that pile rather than from a headline-grabbing fantasy pick.
