It all started when Sammy shared a photo on Instagram of himself with Eddie Van Halen walking to the stage in the 90s. Remembering the good times with Eddie Van Halen, the rocker wrote in the caption, “Walking to the stage in the good old days. I needed to see this photo today to close out this year. Thank you, KC for sending.”

The post started a conversation among his followers. One user commented, saying that Hagar and Eddie were the best duo, better than even famous pairs like Lennon/McCartney or Mick/Keith. “GOATS. There will never be a better duo. Not Lennon/McCartney, not Mick/Keith. You guys will be my forever favorite. I’ll fight someone for that.”

Another user joined in and brought Alex Van Halen into the conversation, saying, “No disrespect to Alex but it’s ok to like VH with Sammy even if he doesn’t anymore.”

Hagar didn’t hold back in his response. He wrote, “It could have my friend but instead we went on to sell over 50 million records for number one album sold out every building and stadium in the world for a whole decade. That never happened again,”

He then shared more frustration about Alex not recognizing the music he and Eddie made together. “Alex is not doing his brother’s musical legacy, justice by not acknowledging all the number one albums and some great music eddie and I wrote together not alex! but eddie and I wrote together. to not acknowledge the 10 years of music is blasphemy to his brothers musicianship and songwriting & legacy.”

The tension between Alex and Hagar has been around for a while, and they’ve taken shots at each other before.

Alex once said the band didn’t represent Van Halen well during Hagar’s Best of All Worlds tour. Some fans felt Alex should have said something sooner, while others pointed out that Hagar had done a lot for the band.

In an interview with The Guardian, Alex said the band lost its spirit when David Lee Roth left, even though they still had success with Hagar. He also mentioned that he stopped working on his book, ‘Brothers,’ in 1985 because of the changes. Hagar later wrote a book with some negative comments about his time in the band.

Hagar then posted a throwback video on social media where Alex talks about Sammy joining the band. In the video, Alex says that Sammy helped Eddie with both vocals and guitar, and they were able to try new things, like using keyboards.

He later revealed that he tried to ask Alex to join his band, but Alex turned him down.
