Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello has shared his early impressions of Black Sabbath in a recent interview with Guitar Player. Morello is preparing to participate in Black Sabbath’s upcoming July reunion concert.

“I was not a fan at first. I was just terrified of them,” Morello admitted. “Someone brought Sabbath Bloody Sabbath to school one day, and I remember just looking at the cover and going, ‘Wait — there’s a band that chose that for their album art? And the name of the band is Black Sabbath?’ It was a whole another level.”

“He literally is an Iron Man! His fingers are not human,” Morello continued, praising Tony Iommi’s guitar work. The upcoming Black Sabbath reunion show will showcase performances from “12 of the greatest Black Sabbath cover bands in history — including Metallica, Guns N’ Roses and Tool.”

Black Sabbath’s historic reunion event provides context for this revelation.

Ticketmaster UK has confirmed the reunion concert details. The event, titled ‘Back to the Beginning,’ will take place on July 5, 2025, at Birmingham’s Villa Park. The hometown venue selection carries special meaning for the band’s legacy.

Morello will serve as the music director for the event. He describes it as “the greatest heavy metal show ever.”

Loudwire has revealed an impressive performer roster. The concert will feature Metallica, Slayer, and Pantera, expanding beyond cover bands to include metal’s most influential acts.

The carefully selected lineup represents heavy metal’s elite performers. Each band has made significant contributions to the genre Black Sabbath helped create.

Charitable Impact

AXS TV reports the reunion show will serve a noble cause. All profits will support multiple charitable organizations, including Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorn Children’s Hospice.

This charitable component elevates the event’s significance in heavy metal history.
