BMG Records has announced the worldwide release of a brand-new album from legendary guitarist Tony Iommi, entitled “From The Dark.” The album is set to arrive on October 23, 2026. This marks a significant moment for the Black Sabbath co-founder, who is returning to solo work after more than two decades away from the format.

BMG Records’ announcement read: “BMG Records are delighted to announce the worldwide release of the brand-new album from legendary guitarist Tony Iommi, entitled From The Dark. Heralded by the first single ‘World Alone’ which received its premiere this afternoon at a special global streaming event hosted in Iommi’s hometown of Birmingham, England, a stone’s throw from the famous Black Sabbath Bridge across the canal, which was opened as a civic tribute to the iconic band in 2019.”

“‘World Alone’ is a thunderous rock song that speeds along on a barrage of flying guitar riffs and solos, backed by a driving rhythm section and topped off with the powerful rock operatics of acclaimed Norwegian vocalist Jorn Lande,” the announcement continued. “The video is based around a retrofuture, dystopian universe where the lead protagonist, The Believer, is pitched into a twisted video game to save his life and ultimately find salvation.”

“‘From The Dark’ sees Tony Iommi joined throughout by Jorn Lande, who shares writing credits on all songs, as well as bassist Becky Baldwin and drummer Karl Brazil,” it added. “Co-produced by Tony and Mike Exeter, his long-time creative partner, co-writer, producer and audio engineer, the sound is crystalline, vibrant and enormous, engulfing the listener in a state-of-the-art sonic experience that is as contemporary as it is timeless.”

The sound is crystalline, vibrant and enormous, engulfing the listener in a state-of-the-art sonic experience that is as contemporary as it is timeless. Iommi commented on the project, stating: “It’s an album we’ve really enjoyed making. We’re not trying to prove anything – it’s a great album, it rocks!”

This solo effort represents Iommi’s first major project in over two decades. The album arrives at a poignant moment in the guitarist’s career, following Black Sabbath’s farewell concert last summer and the subsequent passing of Ozzy Osbourne. It marks a new chapter for the metal pioneer. Iommi’s collaboration with Jorn Lande, a Norwegian vocalist known for his work with bands including Masterplan, Allen-Lande, and Yngwie Malmsteen, brings a fresh dynamic to the project. The partnership maintains the heavy essence that has defined Iommi’s career.

The supporting band assembled for “From The Dark” brings considerable pedigree to the recording. Becky Baldwin, the bassist, is known for her work with Mercyful Fate. Drummer Karl Brazil has previously performed on Iommi’s 2024 single “Deified” and has drummed for major artists including James Blunt and Robbie Williams. This combination of seasoned musicians creates a cohesive unit that complements Iommi’s legendary guitar work and Lande’s operatic vocal delivery.

The album will be available in multiple formats upon its October 23 release. These include red and black marble vinyl, standard black vinyl, a deluxe CD featuring a 32-page mediabook booklet, and a standard CD edition. The project demonstrates that at 78 years old, Iommi remains a vital creative force in heavy music. He continues to push boundaries and explore new sonic territories while maintaining the thunderous, riff-driven approach that made him a godfather of heavy metal.
