Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Tilian Pearson

Tilian Pearson faced sexual abuse allegations in 2022. Several women came forward and accused him of inappropriate behavior. One woman claimed that Tilian pressured her into sex and ignored her boundaries. Another woman shared messages where he acted aggressively and did not respect consent. After these accusations, Tilian responded by saying that all interactions were consensual.

Dance Gavin Dance announced Pearson’s departure through an official statement. They stated they took the allegations against Tilian “very seriously,” adding, “We have been in deep discussion regarding the appropriate action.” The remaining members – Jon, Will, Matt, and Andrew – committed to continuing their scheduled tours. Meanwhile, Pearson stepped away to seek professional help.

Dance Gavin Dance made a telling statement the same year and announced Pearson’s return: “We are a resilient group who has always believed in redemption, and we have seen the hard work that Tilian has been doing to address and overcome an issue that has plagued him for years.” They based their decision on Pearson’s dedicated efforts toward recovery.

Tilian, on the other hand, wrote another statement to update fans. “I’ve spent the past few months in a rehab program for alcohol alongside an intensive series of therapy sessions to reassess my life and how I want to live it,” he said. “It became clear to me and my bandmates that this is what had to happen for me to continue with the group, and I will always appreciate their understanding, support, and the time that they have given me to get my life together.”

Pearson publicly addressed the allegations against him in his statement as well. He maintained that all encounters were consensual. He also issued an apology to those affected. The band carefully clarified that his substance abuse treatment remained separate from these allegations.

Tilian wrote, “It’s also important for me to address something that has been twisted and misrepresented during my absence from the band. The work I have done on myself and my substance abuse issues has nothing to do with any kind of sexual misconduct. I have never had sex or any kind of intimate relationship without the consent of a partner.”

As per Loudwire, Dance Gavin Dance parted ways with Pearson again in 2024. “Dance Gavin Dance has always attempted to reconcile situations internally,” they wrote on Instagram. “But, after much consideration, we have as a collective decided to say farewell to our long time member and friend, Tilian.”

“We thank him for his years of friendship and contribution during his time in Dance Gavin Dance,” the statement continued. “As people grow and change, creative differences can arise and life paths and goals may no longer align. We want to thank you for your support over the past two decades.”

Dance Gavin Dance maintained their scheduled performances during Pearson’s absence. They continued releasing music as well. They made two new singles titled ‘Speed Demon’ and ‘Straight from the Heart’ months after Tilian’s departure, with Andrew Wells on clean vocals. As for Tilian, he teases new music and new band coming this year.
