A pioneer in deathcore, according to the common fan opinion on Reddit, Mitch Lucker left a mark in metal as a member of Suicide Silence before his untimely death in 2012. It seems a special interest of his was the rocker’s cause of death at the age of 28.

The Singer Was A Pioneer In Deathcore

Lucker started his music career with Breakaway, which later became Dying Dreams, featuring his brother Cliff on guitar (per Metal Hammer). In 2003, he joined Suicide Silence, transforming what was then a side project into a groundbreaking deathcore band, his Wikipedia page wrote.

Suicide Silence released their first album, ‘The Cleansing,’ in 2007, selling 7,250 copies in its first week. Follow-up albums, ‘No Time to Bleed’ (2009) and ‘The Black Crown’ (2011), solidified their place in the metal scene.

Lucker’s vocal range, combining high-pitched screams and deep growls, set a new standard for the genre, most fans online agree to this day. Metal Hammer also noted that the late singer was a stand-out performer on stage with fellow musician Will Ramos describing him as such.

He Had Interest In Tattoos And Motorcycles

The vocalist’s special interests along with his music were also in the public eye when he was alive. His body was covered with tattoos, with various designs on his arms, torso, neck, and face.

The only place he avoided getting tattooed was his back, which he explained to Noisecreep in 2009 by saying, “I like seeing the artwork because it is artwork! It’d be like owning an expensive painting that you can never see.”

Lucker’s love for motorcycles was equally well-known. He spoke about the thrill of riding, describing it as a way to match the adrenaline rush he felt on stage in an interview with AltPress shortly before his death.

His Passion For Adrenaline Caused His Death

The rocker’s love for adrenaline brought his tragic end in November 2012. He died following a motorcycle accident in Huntington Beach, California, after crashing his Harley-Davidson into a light pole on Halloween night, Billboard reported. His final post on Instagram was a home shot in his Halloween costume, captioned, “The dead are living…”

Metal Injection later revealed that Lucker had been drinking before the crash and chose to ride despite his wife Jolie Carmadella’s protests. The outlet also explained that the Suicide Silence frontman purposefully ignored safety measures to look ‘cooler’ on his vehicle and bought a helmet not certified by DOT.

Lucker Is Still Remembered By Family And Friends

According to his wiki page on Fandom.com, Lucker’s death deeply affected his family and friends, who organized a memorial show, ‘Ending Is the Beginning,’ on December 21, 2012, to raise funds for his daughter Kenadee’s education.

On the rocker’s death anniversary this year, Suicide Silence paid him tribute by posting a photo of his on Instagram with the caption, “12 years…forever with us brother.”
