LaPlante On Gojira’s ‘Revolutionary’ Moment At The Olympics

In a recent appearance on The Mistress Carrie Podcast, the Spiritbox vocalist shared her thoughts about the performance, saying, “That’s probably the biggest moment in the history of metal that like numbers wise and audience wise to ever happen and then to have that happen and then also to still be so controversial and offensive.”

She added, “It’s like the Revolution and it’s French as hell. So I love that it stressed people out. We were saying someone else, it’s the same as another big moment for our type of music. This metal, this year was Knocked Loose playing and Poppy playing on Jimmy Kimmel. They’re also nominated and if they win, Poppy would be the first woman to win.”

LaPlante also highlighted the significance of the performance, stating, “It was so cool because they did so well and they had such a great audience and then also, people were so offended and stressed about it. So it’s like you don’t have to compromise your sound or your image or something.”

She went on to praise Gojira’s influence, saying, “That’s like everyone’s dream. It is like you can be yourself, not compromise and pay. Be respected by your fans, stress out people who don’t like that kind of music and perhaps find some people who have never been exposed to this type of music before that.”

Courtney concluded by noting, “You’ve made a huge impression on them and they’ll start exploring that.”

Gojira won Best Metal Performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards for their track ‘Mea Culpa (Ah! Ca Ira!),’ which they debuted during the 2024 Olympics opening in Paris. They triumphed over competitors like Judas Priest, Knocked Loose, Metallica, and Spiritbox.

As he accepted the award, Joe Duplantier said, “We are extremely excited to receive this award … We want to dedicate this award to all the bands that are pushing the boundaries and support your local artists, support your local bands because that’s where it’s at. They’re inspiring us to continue, so thank you very much for this.”

LaPlante later congratulated Gojira and praised their 30-year career and Olympic performance, stating they truly deserved the win.
