Sammy Hagar recently took to Instagram to praise Steven Tyler for knowing when to stop.

The singer shared the Aerosmith tribute part of their concert and wrote in the caption:

“What a tremendous loss to the concert, industry, and rock ‘n’ roll in general. Aerosmith, one of the greatest rock bands of all time, Steven Tyler, one of the greatest frontman singers of all time. There’s some great young talent coming up out there, but these are gonna be big shoes to fill. My hat goes off to Steven and the boys for having the dignity and class to do what they did.”

Hagar’s Other Comments On Aerosmith’s Quit

This isn’t Hagar’s first statement on Aerosmith’s retirement decision. On August 2, the Red Rocker sang a Beatles song in Detroit on his tour to honor Aerosmith and their retirement. He explained during the show:

“We had some crazy news today. We got here this afternoon sometime and we’re all sitting around backstage and a friend of ours that works for Aerosmith came and said, ‘Yeah, Aerosmith called retirement today. They quit. They stopped.’ God bless ’em; it’s a horrible thing. What a great f*ckin’ loss.”

Then, he recalled:

“We didn’t know who they were and they sold out Cobo Hall and I’m going, ‘Who the f*ck are these guys?’ So we did our show. We did an encore and we played ‘Helter Skelter’ for our encore and Aerosmith comes on and they open with ‘Helter Skelter.’ Steven [Tyler] and I have been friends ever since.”

Hagar said it was time for Aerosmith to retire:

“Honest to God, my hat goes off to one of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll singers of all time, Steven Tyler, for saying, ‘I can’t sing anymore. I quit.’ F*ck yes! Listen, that’s honorable. That’s f*ckin’ honorable. The day I can’t sing anymore I will f*ckin’ do the same thing, and that’s what a lot of other motherf*ckers should have done a long time ago. So let’s do one for them. Let’s do one for Aerosmith.”

Aerosmith had to cancel their farewell tour after just three shows last September due to Tyler’s vocal injury. They announced their retirement on August 2 by explaining that Tyler’s voice didn’t fully recover despite extensive treatment. The band expressed their gratitude to their fans and crew. They said they had to make the difficult decision to retire from touring.
