During the chat, Cooper shared why he thinks Americans’ depression comes from being atheists.

“We’re living in a really atheistic time in our country it used to not be like this and so what you now have is a generation of people that are now becoming young adults who were raised in America where people just don’t believe in God,” he said.” They don’t believe because if you don’t believe in God then you don’t believe in any sort of almost eternal consequences to the way you live your life because there are no consequences. We don’t know what matters and what doesn’t matter.”

He then explained how he has been trying to live: “I just live for me I live for the way I feel. I try to do what’s right you know and because of that we now have a generation of just depressed people. it makes sense that they’re depressed, they are medicated highly medicated, they have been told that their lives don’t have any grand purpose outside of basically Darwin’s evolution just basically either the strongest survive or they have to try to manufacture a reason that they matter. That’s what I’m trying to say.”

Skillet is releasing a new album called ‘Revolution’ on November 1 through their Hear It Loud label. Their new single premiered on July 8 on Billboard and SiriusXM’s Octane channel.

“‘Unpopular’ is lighthearted, but there’s a clear message,” Cooper said of the new track. “So many people don’t have a place to belong. You used to know your neighbors. Our communities are online now, which contributes to the loneliness. You have powerful people telling you what reality is, what you should eat, what you should drive, and how you should live.”

He added: “They deem us ‘unpopular.’ In reality, we agree more than we disagree as a society. The majority of people just want to be free and they don’t really care whether or not you agree with them about everything.”

The song was teased in the band’s new app. The app will give fans early access to tickets, exclusive content, message boards, and more.
