Lacuna Coil’s frontwoman Cristina Scabbia has addressed her previous relationship with Slipknot guitarist Jim Root in a recent interview with Louder Sound. She shared insights about maintaining both personal privacy and her band’s independent identity throughout their 13-year relationship.

“We were together for more than 13 years, but it’s our stuff. There’s a line you shouldn’t cross, not only for respect of the other person, but also the fact that people don’t need to know,” Scabbia explained.

“I think that many celebrity couples give away so much and then when something happens they’re asking for privacy,” she continued. “If you want privacy, you carve it for yourself from the very beginning. It’s something that we lived and it will stay there.”

“We had a talk about it, because the situation was getting out of hand,” Scabbia added. “We had pictures taken in which I was visible and they were in the very back. We didn’t want to be ‘Cristina and her band’. We were and have always been just a band.”

Her stance on privacy reflects years of experience in balancing personal relationships with professional commitments in the music industry.

Long-Distance Challenges

Insights from Blabbermouth reveal the timeline of Scabbia and Root’s relationship from 2004 to 2017. The couple faced geographical challenges with Scabbia based in Italy while Root maintained residence in Florida.

Their respective bands’ touring schedules created additional complexity. Both artists had to navigate the demands of their musical careers while maintaining their personal connection.

Band Dynamics

Documentation from Who’s Dated Who highlights Scabbia’s consistent approach to professional boundaries within her band. She has maintained this principle throughout various personal situations.

This professional approach proved beneficial during her previous relationship with Lacuna Coil’s bassist Marco Coti Zelati. Their amicable separation allowed them to preserve their roles as bandmates and close friends.

Professional Identity

Scabbia has built her reputation as a respected musician in the metal scene independently of her personal relationships. Her dedication to maintaining clear boundaries has strengthened Lacuna Coil’s identity as a unified band rather than a backdrop to personal relationships.
