DIETH has announced a new era for the band, signing a record deal with Fireflash Records, introducing Swedish bassist Tobias Cristiansson to replace David Ellefson, and announcing their upcoming single, “Pound of Flesh,” as shared on Instagram.
The record label announced the signing and the new lineup, highlighting the addition of Cristiansson and the upcoming single.
“DIETH signs new record deal with Fireflash Records, reveal new line-up featuring Tobias Cristiansson (GRAVE, NECROPHOBIC, EX-DISMEMBER) and announce first new single ‘Pound of Flesh’!” Fireflash Records announced.
DIETH vocalist and guitarist Guilherme Miranda expressed his excitement about the new record deal and the band’s future direction.
“This feels like the right home for us, as they share our vision of where we can take the band,” Miranda said. “We’ve poured our heart and soul into this new music, and I honestly couldn’t be more excited about what we have in store. New lineup, new music, new album — this is just the beginning.”
Miranda also shared details about the musical and lyrical direction of the upcoming single, “Pound of Flesh.”
“‘Pound Of Flesh’ is brutal, and that’s exactly what I wanted this song to be,” Miranda continued. “Musically and lyrically, it’s one of my favorite things we’ve done. I’m very excited because it’s a new chapter for DIETH. I really can’t wait for you guys to hear and see what we’ve been working on!”
Additionally, Miranda commented on the departure of David Ellefson and welcomed Tobias Cristiansson to the band.
“It’s a pleasure to welcome my longtime friend Tobias to DIETH,” Miranda added. “His history speaks for itself, and he fits perfectly with what we’re building. I’m beyond happy and honored to have him with us for this new chapter.”
The lineup change marks a significant shift for the band, which has built its reputation on a mix of death and thrash metal built around experienced players. The departure of Ellefson puts a new focus on the band’s origins and the musicians now carrying it forward.
DIETH was formed in 2022 by David Ellefson, Guilherme Miranda, and Michał Łysejko. Ellefson took on bass duties at the band’s founding, which means the new lineup marks the first time the group will move forward without him.
The incoming bassist brings a deep background in Swedish death metal. Tobias Cristiansson is known for his work with Dismember, Grave, The Dagger, Empyreal, Darkened, In Aphelion, and Necrophobic, and he joined Dismember in 2006, recording the album “Dismember” with the band. He also spent time with Grave, taking over bass duties in 2010 for live appearances in Colombia and Finland.
Cristiansson has spoken about how he settled into his most recent bands. “I’m the latest guy in the band… I was first a replacement bass player and then I joined officially some years ago,” he told, describing his path into Necrophobic. That same pattern of stepping in and then becoming a permanent member is now repeating with DIETH.
Ellefson’s own history gives context to the change. He served as Megadeth’s bassist from 1983 until the band’s breakup in 2002, and again from 2010 to 2021. He was dismissed from Megadeth in 2021, and he later formed DIETH the following year.
The transition also comes alongside the band’s new label home. DIETH have revealed the departure of former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson from their roster, with a new statement listing Cristiansson as the newest addition to the group. The same report notes that alongside the new record deal, the band unveiled the details of their upcoming single.
With a new label, a new bassist, and a new single on the way, DIETH is positioning “Pound of Flesh” as the opening statement of what Miranda has called a new chapter for the band.
