Chris Holmes, the legendary guitarist from the heavy metal band W.A.S.P., is facing a new health crisis. His wife and manager Catherine Savean Holmes announced that Holmes has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and has begun radiotherapy treatment in France. The couple has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the mounting medical expenses that have already accumulated to €20,000, with more costs expected as treatment continues.

In a heartfelt statement, Catherine explained the difficult circumstances surrounding the diagnosis. “We never imagined we would have to write something like this again,” she wrote, referencing Holmes’ previous battle with throat cancer in 2022, which was also supported by a successful GoFundMe campaign. “In 2022, just after two years of Covid lockdown, Chris faced throat cancer. A GoFundMe carried us through an impossible moment. We were deeply grateful, and we hoped we would never have to ask again.”

An administrative error related to their marriage registration complicated the situation. Catherine added, “Today life has placed us in another hard situation, and we want to speak about it honestly. Chris has begun radiotherapy in France for prostate cancer. The treatment is essential and cannot be interrupted.”

“Because of an administrative error linked to our marriage registration, the health insurance system placed Chris under ’emergency only’ coverage,” Catherine further explained. “He had to wait three months before receiving any care at all, and only the radiotherapy given during the month of July is covered. Everything else falls to us. This has already left us with €20,000 in medical debt, and the treatment ahead will keep adding to it every month.”

Holmes must remain in France to continue his radiotherapy safely. Catherine’s plea emphasizes the gravity of the situation: “Chris must remain in France to receive radiotherapy. Leaving the country would risk his emergency status lapsing, so he cannot travel and therefore cannot work. Chris has given everything to his music and to the people who listen to it. It is his whole life. Today we cannot carry this alone. We are grateful to France for granting the emergency coverage that allowed Chris to begin radiotherapy. Now we ask, humbly, for help covering everything else.”

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men after skin cancer. The 68-year-old musician’s diagnosis comes at a particularly vulnerable time in his life, as he is unable to tour or perform due to the necessity of remaining in France for continuous treatment.

Modern prostate cancer treatment has evolved significantly in recent years. Multiple therapeutic approaches are now available to patients, including radiotherapy, hormone therapy, and newer targeted therapies that have shown promising results in clinical trials. The radiotherapy Holmes is undergoing represents one of the standard treatment protocols for prostate cancer management. It is designed to target and eliminate cancerous cells while minimizing damage to surrounding tissue.

Recent medical advances have introduced innovative approaches to prostate cancer treatment that offer improved outcomes for patients. New immunotherapy techniques and targeted radiation treatments have demonstrated enhanced effectiveness. Some therapies show the ability to make cancer cells more vulnerable to the immune system’s detection and destruction. Combination therapies involving hormone deprivation therapy paired with newer medications have shown significant improvements in patient outcomes. Studies indicate substantially higher rates of complete or near-complete cancer response with these approaches.

The couple’s message to supporters reflects both their gratitude and their determination. “If you are able to give, even a small amount, it goes directly to the medication, medical exams, and transport Chris needs to finish his treatment safely. And if you cannot give, your messages, your love, and your presence mean just as much.” The GoFundMe campaign represents their hope that the metal community and Holmes’ fans will rally behind the guitarist during this challenging period. This support will allow him to focus entirely on his recovery without the added burden of financial stress.
