My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way hinted that the band hopes to make a new album. This would be their first in more than 15 years. He made the announcement during the closing night of their Black Parade tour in San Antonio on September 12.
“Just know that, like, we’ve kind of really always wanted to make another record, so we hope that life allows us to do that. Cause you guys, honestly, you guys kept us alive so long,” Way told the crowd.
“You guys deserve another record. I don’t know when it’ll be. But it’ll be awesome.”
This comment comes as the band continues its first major run built around The Black Parade in years. The tour has leaned heavily on the 2006 album’s full track list and fan-favorite deep cuts, fueling speculation about whether the reunion could lead to new music.
My Chemical Romance’s last studio album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, was released on November 22, 2010. It has been nearly 16 years since the band last issued a full-length record. The album marked the band’s fourth and final studio album before its hiatus. This history makes any talk of a follow-up especially significant for fans.
The band previously announced its breakup in 2013. Danger Days was their last record before that split. This release framed the long gap before their eventual reunion. The album carried the band into its later break. However, the recent touring cycle has revived interest in whether Gerard Way, Frank Iero, Ray Toro, and Mikey Way will return to the studio together.
The Black Parade anniversary tour has featured a full-album performance format. The band opens sets with “The End.” and “Dead!” before moving through The Black Parade in sequence.
The tour’s July 11, 2025 setlist also included extra songs such as “I’m Not Okay (I Promise),” “The Ghost of You,” “Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na),” and “Helena.” These additions underscore the reunion’s wider retrospective scope.
