The long-standing feud within Journey may have reached a peaceful resolution, as the families of Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain have signaled a reconciliation. This development was shared in a recent post on Instagram.
Jonathan Cain’s wife, Paula White-Cain, shared new photos with Neal Schon’s wife, Michaele, to celebrate her birthday, indicating that the two families are back on good terms.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICHAELE..We love and celebrate you today and always.. I pray Gods greatness and blessings over you this year. ENJOY!!!!! Can’t wait to be back out with you guys,” Paula White-Cain wrote.
This public display of friendship marks a significant shift from previous tensions. In a 2022 interview, Jonathan Cain had expressed strong criticism regarding Neal Schon and his wife’s behavior.
“Neal Schon should look in the mirror when he accuses me of causing harm to the Journey brand,” Jonathan Cain said in the 2022 interview. “I have watched him damage our brand for years and am a victim of both his — and his wife’s — bizarre behavior. Neal sued Live Nation twice, losing both times and damaging our ability to ever work with them again; Neal outrageously tried to take away trademarks from Steve Perry.”
Cain had also accused the couple of causing internal disruption and financial strain within the band’s operations.
“Neal and his wife continually insult the professionalism of numerous accountants, road managers, and management firms with endless legal threats and their bullying, toxic, and incoherent emails; Neal argues online with fans who don’t see eye to eye with him; and Neal and his wife recklessly spend Journey’s money until there is none left for operating costs,” Cain continued. “If anyone is destroying the Journey brand, it is Neal — and Neal alone.”
The recent birthday post suggests that the families have put these past disputes behind them as they prepare to head back out on the road. The apparent truce arrives after years of public and legal conflict, much of which centered on money and control of the band’s business.
Schon sued Cain in California in late 2022, claiming Cain had denied him access to the American Express account used for Journey business and to the related financial records. The suit said the band’s affairs ran through Nomota LLC, and Schon’s side argued that Cain was “blocking payment to band members, crew and vendors,” as well as refusing to execute necessary operating documents.
Cain’s camp fired back and called Schon’s claims “malicious lies.” The response framed the dispute as a financial matter rather than a creative one, with the keyboardist’s side disputing Schon’s account of how the band’s business was being handled.
Cain escalated the fight in January 2023 by filing a countersuit that accused Schon of charging more than $1 million in personal expenses to the band’s shared card, including a reported $400,000 shopping spree in a single month.
The bitter back-and-forth eventually wound down in the courts. The two sides reached a resolution in August 2024 after failed arbitration and with a trial approaching.
That legal truce appears to have set the stage for the warmer tone now on display. With the litigation resolved and the wives publicly celebrating together, the latest post offers the clearest sign yet that the two families may finally be ready to move forward as the band looks ahead to its next run of shows.
