Tool bassist Justin Chancellor recently appeared on the ‘The Vinyl Guide’ podcast. When asked if he and his bandmates had begun writing any new material for a studio album to follow up on their 2019 record ‘Fear Inoculum,’ the rocker said:

“We’ve got many ideas cooking. We haven’t recorded anything yet. But we’re quite busy until — I guess until after the spring of next year touring. So once that’s done, we’re going to get back in the studio and knuckle down and put some of it together.”

The bassist shared that they actually started the process and are waiting for a slow period to give all their energy to the new record. He added:

“We’ve already had a few pretty decent sessions of writing. So we’ve got the ingredients in place. We’ve just got to really bang it out and spend that time when we’re not touring.”

Justin was also asked if there were any tracks they stored away from previous studio sessions of their last album. The bassist replied:

“Yeah, tons from the last album. We have tons of ideas, but not recorded to the standard we’d put on an album. Just kind of, I’d say, lots of demoed stuff. And then just tons of ideas just kind of stored away.”

Before the band gets into hibernation mode at the studio for their next album, they are currently on the road. Most recently, they headlined the Aftershock festival in Sacramento, California, and even played the Power Trip festival in Indio, California.
