Dream Theater singer James LaBrie chatted with Revolver and shared his pick of the most underrated album from the band. The rocker said:

Your taste in news shouldn't be up to an algorithm — choose it yourself on Google!

“Well, I think maybe ‘Falling into Infinity.’ I think it’s a phenomenal album myself … But that was a very trying time for the band. We were going through so many transformations with the people that represented us — management, label, and the personnel within the label.”

James added that there were certain ‘hurdles’ they had to overcome to get the ball rolling. He expressed:

“Then, we were also going through some transitional personal hurdles. It was growing pains, learning to accept each other for who and what we are. We all have our idiosyncrasies, right?”

Even though the album was deemed as ‘controversial,’ the band had shared that Elektra made a lot of changes within the team and with that the new executives required Dream Theater to move past their progressive sound and make more mainstream, pop-oriented tracks for the album.

While the band tried to convince the label to create what they like, they ultimately tried to strike a balance with prog and pop. But not everyone was on board; Mike Portnoy was one of them.

So, with all the turbulence behind the scenes the album was made and James shared that he was pleasantly surprised by the end result. The rocker said:

“I’m surprised [Falling Into Infinity] came out as well as it did considering all the bullshit that was going on in the periphery of things.”
