Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer frontman Maynard James Keenan recently shared a hospital bed update ahead of his upcoming concert dates. He detailed his recent health struggle with his hip on Instagram.

Keenan explained how his hip suddenly stopped working during a tour in July. The injury forced him to perform in pain.

“Don’t be lazy,” Keenan said. “Read the whole post. July 3rd, woke up Luxembourg on tour with A Perfect Circle. When I went to do my morning workout and hike, my left hip said no. Out of nowhere it just decided to not work. Had to finish the rest of the tour in pain with a cane.”

He then described the urgency of finding a medical solution due to his extensive upcoming touring schedule.

“Followed by the frantic phone calls and emails to get to the bottom of it,” he continued. “Labrum tear? Hip replacement? Sprain? I needed answers fast because I have shit to do. Many tours. Starting in September and all the way to Christmas, I’ll be performing roughly 27 shows in 18 different countries with three different bands. Cancelling isn’t an option. People have purchased tickets and booked travel and lodging, most of which is probably nonrefundable.”

Keenan concluded by thanking his medical team in Los Angeles for scheduling his surgery quickly.

“Hats off to the medical team in LA,” he added. “When taking recovery into consideration, my cut off for a hip replacement would be September 1st. These wizards all aligned their wands and got me in on August 26th. Phew.”

Keenan is expected to begin his upcoming tours in September as scheduled.

The surgery comes as Keenan prepares for a demanding schedule across three of his best-known projects. The musician is 62 years old and previously underwent hip replacement surgery in 2015. This history adds context to his latest health update.

A Perfect Circle announced a 2026 world tour that includes performances with Puscifer in several international markets. The schedule includes dates in Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Santiago, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Auckland, Tokyo, Osaka, and Honolulu.

The A Perfect Circle and Puscifer dates form part of a wider touring plan rather than a single short run. The two projects also have separate European legs planned earlier in 2026.

A Perfect Circle’s late-year itinerary includes an Australia and New Zealand leg in December. The band is scheduled to perform in Adelaide on December 4, Melbourne on December 6, Brisbane on December 8, Sydney on December 11, and Auckland on December 13.

Tool’s schedule adds another demanding stretch to Keenan’s calendar. Tool has fall 2026 concert listings beginning in September. These listings include dates in Louisville, Chicago, and Sacramento.

Keenan’s decision to proceed with surgery before September 1 reflects the limited recovery window between his medical treatment and the planned international performances. His update suggests that he intends to remain on the road. His recovery will determine how smoothly the three-band schedule proceeds.
