REO Speedwagon bassist Bruce Hall has issued a response to Kevin Cronin’s comments about the band’s upcoming reunion concert through a statement on Facebook. Several original members will participate in the planned one-off concert, but Cronin’s absence has sparked public discussion about its organization.

“Happy to set the record straight. We were all (including Kevin) invited to participate in this event in early January,” Hall stated. “Kevin states he’s been ‘falsely accused’ of turning down the invitation. I’ve seen nowhere it’s been said he turned it down and I know he’s been asked to participate virtually.”

“This event was created to provide the founding fathers, original singers and classic REO lineup a chance to reunite and say a proper goodbye,” Hall continued. “A chance to honor Gary Richrath and Gregg Philbin’s memory.”

“Most importantly, proceeds are going to the REO Speedwagon fund for rare GU Cancer Research at Moffitt Cancer Center. The hospital that saved my son’s life,” he explained. “How anyone can be ‘deeply disturbed and hurt’ by this is beyond me.”

“Neal, Alan and I are not being paid. We are thrilled to have this amazing chance to rock together one last time and raise money and awareness for such a wonderful cause.”

Recent developments have revealed deeper complexities surrounding the reunion event’s scheduling and participation details.

Ultimate Classic Rock revealed the reunion concert will take place on June 14, 2025, in Champaign, Illinois. The event will showcase special guests and feature an in memoriam segment for departed band members.

Champaign holds special significance as the band’s birthplace. The local music scene played a crucial role in the band’s early development.

Scheduling Conflict

Consequence highlighted that Cronin’s absence stems from a concurrent tour with Styx. The timing overlap has created tension regarding the event’s announcement.

Cronin maintains he faced deliberate exclusion from in-person participation. The band offered him a virtual participation option as an alternative.

Charitable Focus

People Magazine emphasized the event’s charitable mission. All proceeds will support the REO Speedwagon fund for GU Cancer Research at Moffitt Cancer Center.

The band demonstrates its ongoing commitment to medical research through this charitable initiative. Their focus remains particularly strong in cancer treatment and research support.
