Why Did Guitarist Simon Ormandy Leave Trapt

A significant change occurred in Trapt’s lineup in 2008 when one of its founding members made a career move. According to archived band announcements, lead guitarist Simon Ormandy left the band on March 7, 2008. This marked the end of an era that began with the band’s formation.

Early Years With Warner Bros.

The band’s professional journey started when they signed with Warner Bros. Records in 2001. AllMusic notes that this signing initiated their work on their debut album. Ormandy played a crucial role in establishing the band’s initial sound.

The Departure

Music Geek Media reports that Ormandy’s departure was amicable, contrary to circulating rumors. The band’s frontman Brown maintained positive discussions about Ormandy during the transition to their new guitarist.

The New Chapter With Robb Torres

Robb Torres joined as the new lead guitarist after Ormandy’s exit. He brought fresh energy to the band’s sound. The transition period showed the band’s continued musical evolution. Torres quickly became an integral part of their lineup. The PRP reports that the band remains active in 2025. They have embarked on acoustic tours, though some planned appearances face scheduling changes.

Ormandy’s Legacy With Trapt

Wikipedia documents Simon Ormandy’s substantial contributions to Trapt. He worked on their self-titled debut album in 2002 and the EP ‘Glimpse’ in 2000. His guitar work featured prominently on their second studio album ‘Someone in Control’ (2005). He also contributed to their first live album ‘Trapt Live!’ in 2007.

Transition Period And New Releases

Ormandy’s departure coincided with an active period for the band. The Spokesman-Review reports that Trapt was preparing their new album ‘Only Through the Pain’ during the transition. The band released ‘Who’s Going Home With You Tonight?’ one day after announcing Ormandy’s departure. Several other tracks followed, including ‘Black Rose,’ ‘Contagious,’ and ‘Wasteland.’

Post-Departure Activities

The band maintained strong momentum after Ormandy’s exit. Amino Apps notes that Trapt secured a major touring opportunity with Mötley Crüe for Crüe Fest in April 2008. The tour included prominent acts like Buckcherry and Papa Roach. It ran from July through August 2008. This successful tour demonstrated the band’s ability to thrive during their transition period.
