Getting popular at the beginning of the 90s, nu-metal bands such as Korn, Coal Chamber, Limp Bizkit, and more bands have been getting more attention and resurging nowadays. Peulen was one of the names who was aware of the resurgence.

While chatting about the start of her career with Coal Chamber, the rocker was asked about the difference between the 1999 audience and the most recent audience and fans. She replied with the following:

“I guess the nu-metal days were kind of over when the whole emo stuff started, isn’t that what was happening right after nu-metal?”

After the host clarified that it was the time when My Chemical Romance came out and took over the alternative music scene, Peulen went on:

“Yeah, that, and nu metal was a little bit on the side, and of course the big ones like Korn, I don’t know, Limp Bizkit? They have been touring, right, this whole time?”

Along with other nu-metal bands, Coal Chamber took place in the first Sick New World Festival, which was held this year. Apparently, the bassist came across many young people who dressed like her in her earlier years, making her nostalgic. Discussing the other artists’ stages, she continued:

“I mean, what’s the difference? It just kind of was out of style, and now I guess it’s in style again. We have kids coming to the shows in like ’90s outfits, wearing everything that we used to wear or didn’t wear. So it’s really cool to see that.”

Although she didn’t have many opinions on the differences between now and back then, she acknowledged that there used to be more concerts:

“I don’t know, I haven’t really thought about it much, the difference between now and then. Of course, there was more bands, nu metal bands, there was a lot more going on even in LA, concerts everywhere, shows to strip, and now it’s just kind of quiet compared to what it used to be.”

She then concluded by hoping that the sound of nu-metal would eventually come back to what it was back then:

“I hope so. I hope it’s all coming back. What I’ve seen playing in Sick New World [Festival] in Vegas, which was like the first show we did after seven, eight years, and that was basically a full nu metal lineup. Everybody was on there, and I had to say, everybody did great, everybody sounded great, everybody sounded great. A lot of these people look better than they did seven or eight years ago.”

This year’s Sick New World Festival consisted of bands such as Deftones, Incubus, Chevelle, Evanescence, Turnstile, and over 30 more bands, with System Of A Down, Korn, The Sisters of Mercy and Cradle of Filth headlining in four different stages.

Next year’s Sick New World lineup has been announced to take place on April 27, guesting bands like System Of A Down, A Perfect Circle, Bring Me The Horizon, Slipknot, Alice In Chains, and more.
