More AI-generated songs are taking over the Internet. Now Kinks’ Dave Davies is one of the victims of it. A user recently shared an AI Kinks cover of the children’s song ‘Hop Skip Jump’ on YouTube.
“What the f*ck is this?,” Davies shared the song with the comment on X. “This Kinks AI cover is like horror show, sounds f*ckin horrible.”
Many fans pointed out that the song was taken down and that they were sorry that he had to deal with such a thing.
Davies isn’t the only musician bothered by AI-generated songs. While many rockers like Slash, Nuno Bettencourt and Peter Tägtgren think AI might cause the death of musicians, some are not afraid of it.
“I just think that artificial intelligence can’t really perform live. I mean, this is what it’s coming down to. A lot of music, especially in the pop world these days, is a little bit on the false side — people mime to it and what have you. And A.I. can’t even do that,” Judas Priest bassist Ian Hill said during an interview. “You can’t have artificial intelligence standing on stage. That ain’t gonna work. So, from a recording point of view, yeah, they might fool people — they might fool a hell of a lot of people — but, actually, when they say there’s a band playing live, that’s gonna be the acid test, isn’t it?”
On top of that, over 200 musicians teamed up to protest against AI-generated music. Pearl Jam, Jon Bon Jovi, T-Rex, Greta Van Fleet, Sheryl Crow, Peter Frampton, R.E.M., Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello, Don Was, and Frank Sinatra’s estate joined forces with the Artist Rights Alliance to address concerns about AI-created music. They called on AI developers, tech companies, platforms, and digital music services to stop using AI in ways that harm creativity and undermine artists.
