In 2021, Kourtney Kardashian made the headlines when some photographs showed her wearing a Cannibal Corpse ‘Eaten Back To Life’ shirt while out with her now-husband, Travis Barker. The matter resurfaced recently during an interview with The Rockman Power Hour when the interviewer asked Alex Webster about his views on the band’s footprint in pop culture. Webster explained:
“We’re lucky to be in that position. I remember I’d see these classic shirts. You’ll see a Motörhead shirt or Ramones shirt or Slayer logo shirt, Iron Maiden shirt, AC/DC shirt… Those kinds of things you’ll see in pop culture, not just in the music scene.”
Mentioning his wishes for also existing outside of the metal scene, the bassist went on:
“For us to start dipping into that a little bit—That was something I always kind of hoped would happen. I think anyone in a band [would want to] have that kind of growth in your career. To be able to really just be no one universally, in a way. It’s something you can kind of hope for, but you can’t really plan on it happening.”
He referred to his band’s 35-year-old career and added:
“So I think just by us having been around for a long time, it’s sort of gotten there over the years. Every now and then, there’ll be this weird pop culture kind of reference to us that you wouldn’t expect. And it can be it can be with merch or something like that. And to be fair, we’ve just been lucky in that way.”
On the other hand, Kardashian’s photograph also received negative comments from some people, including Cannibal Corpse’s former vocalist, Chris Barnes. Resharing the picture on social media, Barnes called the couple ‘posers’ a few years ago. In response, Blink-182 drummer mentioned the matter in a chat with Revolver by saying:
“To speak on that, that’s the lamest shit ever. Obviously, my fiancée doesn’t listen to Cannibal Corpse, but I do. I grew up loving them. For [someone] to mention that in a negative light — fucking lame, you know? She’s wearing it because she’s cold. She’s not claiming she knows every song. But I do! I bought every album, and I learned how to play every album.”
