“When my 3rd solo album of 2019 ‘COTILLIONS’ was being prepped for release, and by a team that didn’t really care much that I was releasing a solo album when The Smashing Pumpkins was once more 3/4th’s whole and gaining new ground, I was asked what name I wanted to release it under: Billy Corgan or WPC/William Patrick Corgan,” the singer said on Instagram.

He added, “I chose the latter, and when the album quickly sank without a trace I was blamed because ‘no one knows who William Patrick Corgan is.’ And so until recent times, if you went to ‘Billy Corgan’ on a streaming service, you would not find ‘Cotillions’ because according to them Billy and William are different people.”

“So be it. Therefore I’m happy to report I am once more the same person, and that these two beautiful solo albums can live side by side as digital neighbors. And hopefully, soon ‘TheFutureEmbrace’ can join them in a spare lot and a Streamliner trailer,” Corgan lastly noted.

“There is a reason I trust you, the people who support me day in and day out, to decide whether or not my efforts are worthy. We live in a different world now, where an artist can speak directly to you without the filter of mass media shaping your heart and opinions before you’ve even had a chance to decide whether this music speaks to you. And this is absolutely an album from my heart,” the vocalist noted on Instagram while announcing his album in 2019.

The songs on the album were written in 2017 while Corgan was on a month-long trip across America. He had enough material for a 17-track double album.

Since releasing ‘Cotillions,’ Corgan has not put out a new solo album. However, he released his thirteenth album with Smashing Pumpkins, titled ‘Aghori Mhori Mei,’ on August 2, 2024. He will tour with the band in South America in November.
