Mastodon Announces Departure Of Founding Guitarist Brent Hinds

Mastodon has officially announced the departure of guitarist Brent Hinds in a statement shared on their official Facebook page. A 25-year collaboration that helped shape the band’s distinctive sound and legacy has come to an end.

“Friends and Fans, After 25 monumental years together, Mastodon and Brent Hinds have mutually decided to part ways,” the band stated in their announcement. “We’re deeply proud of and beyond grateful for the music and history we’ve shared and we wish him nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors.”

“We are still very inspired and excited to show up for fans in this next chapter of Mastodon,” the statement continued. “As we move forward, all 2025 touring plans will remain intact. We look forward to seeing you on the road.”

Hinds’ departure represents a significant turning point in Mastodon’s history. This milestone prompts a reflection on his contributions and the band’s evolution over the past quarter-century.

Musical Legacy

Loudwire reports that Hinds has been fundamental to Mastodon since its formation in 2000. He contributed to all eight of the band’s studio albums, from their debut ‘Remission’ in 2002 to their latest release ‘Hushed and Grim’ in 2021.

His distinctive guitar work and vocal style became crucial elements of Mastodon’s unique sound. These contributions helped the band evolve from their early sludge metal roots to their more progressive modern approach.

Side Projects And Collaborations

Biographical sources highlight Hinds’ involvement in several notable side projects during his time with Mastodon. He performed with the surfabilly band Fiend Without a Face and joined the supergroup Giraffe Tongue Orchestra.

These musical ventures showcased his versatility as a musician. He explored different genres and styles while maintaining his primary role in Mastodon.

Loudwire confirms Mastodon’s commitment to their scheduled 2025 tour dates. The band will appear at Tool’s Live in the Sand festival and co-headline a U.S. tour with Coheed and Cambria, featuring support from Periphery.

The band’s dedication to their touring schedule demonstrates their focus on the future. They remain determined to move forward despite this significant lineup change after 25 years.
