The rocker was discussing what went down while making the 1995 album ‘Subhuman Race;’ Skid Row’s final record with Sebastian Bach. He explained:

“It was the beginning of the end for the band, pretty much… Even more than the beginning of the end. The band was falling apart. It was evident that this [‘Subhuman Race’] was, probably, gonna be the last record that we do, but the songs were rushed; I shouldn’t say rushed because we had some cool stuff but they were really torn apart.”

Bolan then carried on and detailed how working with producer Bob Rock was:

“Bob just tore down and [said] ‘Do this, do that.’ and we were like… I can’t say, personally, [that] when we walked away from that record, I felt good about it… That record is kind of a cult classic at this point [laughs], some people really like it. [However] I didn’t like it sonically, I didn’t like how songs turned out from what they were originally were.”

Then, when the host asked whether he had self-doubts about the album, the rocker said:

“It’s not so much self-doubt. It’s doubting the song. It’s doubting if guys would like it [the songs]. Like I said, the infighting was bad. It’s like, ‘Why do you get to write a song and we don’t’ type of thing.”

He added, further detailing the ‘infighting,’ and how he wants to rerecord some tracks:

“Man, we were just following the process that made it successful. Let’s just do it the same way. It happens with every band, it is what it is. I still like some of the songs on that record. I would love to rerecord a few of those songs with Eric.”
