Skid Row drummer Rob Hammersmith has provided an update on the band’s ongoing search for a new lead singer in a recent interview with Chuck Shute. The band has been actively seeking a vocalist since last year. They have already auditioned several candidates.
“We have been on an active search since last year. Having said that we’ve had some really good candidates that we have been in discussions with,” Hammersmith explained. “We have actually been in the room with a handful of people. We’ve had a really good experience with a lot of people.”
“We are still in the midst of an active search,” he continued. “We like to keep that storyline out there and remind everybody that we are still looking. So, if anybody hears this or if there’s anybody out there that thinks that they’re right for it, it’s still an ongoing search at this moment. But we’ve made a lot of progress and it’s amazing.”
The drummer highlighted the impressive talent pool during their search: “I’ve actually to make the best of a situation like that. It’s kind of awesome to see how many talented people there are out there whether or not they’re right for us.”
The search for a vocalist represents another significant chapter in Skid Row’s history. This moment is crucial for the veteran metal band’s future.
Recent Lineup Changes

The band’s latest frontman, Erik Grönwall, left in March 2024 due to health issues, as noted in the band’s official history.
The current lineup features founding members Dave ‘The Snake’ Sabo and Rachel Bolan. Guitarist Scotti Hill and drummer Rob Hammersmith, who joined in 2010, complete the stable core of the band.
Vocal Legacy

Loudwire documents the band’s most successful era with Sebastian Bach in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
After Bach’s departure, the band continued its metal journey with several talented vocalists. Johnny Solinger, Tony Harnell, and ZP Theart each brought unique styles to the group’s sound.
Current Direction

The band’s methodical approach to selecting their next vocalist shows their commitment to preserving their musical legacy. They prioritize finding the right fit over making hasty decisions.
Their careful selection process demonstrates Skid Row’s dedication to their craft and fanbase. The band remains focused on ensuring their next chapter maintains their established position in the metal scene.
