Tom Morello spoke with Eddie Trunk in a recent interview about the possibility of Audioslave reuniting since the memorial show for Chris Cornell.

He said, “Chris Cornell memorial show was so sort of like beautiful and great, punctuation mark on that.” Morello mentioned that during his solo shows, he honors both the Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave legacies. “When I do my solo shows, we honor both sort of the Rage legacy and Audioslave one. We play ‘Like A Stone’ with the microphone empty so the crowd can sing that beautiful prayer in a memory of him. That feels good to me to do.”

Regarding any new plans, Morello confirmed, “There’s no plans on doing anything.”

In a previous interview with Metal Hammer, Morello stated that Audioslave gave Cornell a renewed sense of purpose and ‘bought him 16 more years.’ He shared, “People live their lives in different ways, and with Chris, for the entire time I knew him, there was a lot of mystery. He was mysterious, he really was the person you hear in those lyrics. It wasn’t until some time later that we pieced it together.”

Morello added, “I believe that the good fortune of all us having met bought him 16 more years. That band was so liberating, it really felt like the horizon was completely open. And you know what? Standing onstage with Chris Cornell beside you is pretty great.”

A year after Chris Cornell’s death, Morello shared that the band had ‘abandoned’ plans for a reunion. Cornell died by suicide following a performance with Soundgarden. During his time with Audioslave, he recorded three studio albums and a live album between 2002 and 2007 before leaving the band.
