Korn’s guitarist Brian Welch opened up about getting through the most challenging period in his life during a recent conversation with Pastor Ken Foreman.
The musician recalled what he went through while his daughter was little with the following words:
“I got full custody of my daughter, and her mom left us in the most crazy way. She was broken, and I don’t blame her. She passed away two years ago, but she got these guys who came in, light to her, and put these dots in her head, and they brainwashed her. They moved into my house while I was on tour with Metallica on the Summer Sanitarium Tour. System of a Down, Korn, Metallica, and some other bands.”
He further detailed that period, explaining:
“And I got a phone call from my friend who owned the pawnshop. And these skinny heads were trying to huck my thing, so I sent my friend to my house. He borrowed a gun from another friend. He went to the house, not even thinking what was going to happen. Thank god they were gone, and there was a babysitter with my daughter. I took her, went home, and changed my locks for not them to get in.”
Welch went on to reveal his mindset at the time:
“I got full custody because my wife was brainwashed. I got to this point because we had some friends that were in the Crips, the gang in LA. I had this conversation with someone like, ‘What would it cost to get rid of this guy that brainwashed my wife?’ I don’t think I’d gone through with it, but just being in that state…”
The guitarist then discussed his return to religion:
“My heart came into murder. I wanted him dead so bad, but I didn’t want to target my back, my daughter’s back, or whatnot. So it got really bad. I got through that thing, thank god. I tried to be sober so that I could be a responsible father, and it didn’t work, but what changed was my suicidal ideation, and after going to rehabs and trying that, as my last resort, I was like, ‘I will try this Church stuff.'”
Brian turned to Christianity after quitting drugs and alcohol. He reads the Bible and tries to apply its teachings to his life. While he admitted before that he got carried away, he still sees Jesus as a lasting part of his life.
