Shinedown frontman Brent Smith spoke with Audacy Music about why he believes rock and roll will make a comeback in 2025.

“The greatest thing about rock and roll is that it’s an attitude, it’s a way of life, it’s not just a genre of music,” he explained. “The rock and roll community is some of the most wonderful people. They’re the greatest strangers you could ever meet. You don’t need to be afraid, I tell people that all the time, metal shows, rock shows of that style. Sometimes people are like, ‘That’s gonna be frightening,’ and this and that. Just go and see what it’s like.”

The rocker continued: “Then they go and they’re like, ‘This is the greatest thing ever,’ because everybody is so into it and you’re in a room filled with strangers but everybody’s there to have a great time. That’s the spirit of rock and roll. I think in 2025 you’re going to see definitely a rock and roll revival.”

Smith also touched on what makes rock music so special. “At the end of the day, I’ve always looked at it as there is something that you’re never going to be able to replace. There’s something special that happens when you take drums, bass, guitar, badass vocals, and a killer song. Just something magical happens between us as human beings with that. So that’s one of the reasons why you have songs that’s kind of a declaration that rock and roll is never going to die.”

In a similar take, Smith previously discussed the uniqueness of rock music in an interview with the Rock Sugar Magic podcast. “The beauty of it is that when you put people together in a room, you’re never gonna replace the dynamic of drums, bass, guitar, badass vocals in a killer song. It just will never go out of style.”

Smith also believes that music can help people heal: “I’ve gotta tell you, though, that’s something that, especially in the last few years, I’ve noticed it more like, music is a powerful thing. And especially when you’re talking about songs, but exactly what you said — I’ve seen songs cure cancer. It’s pretty powerful. There’s just a different level inside of that. Because we’re all connected to one another.”

Shinedown’s Dance, Kid, Dance tour will start on April 25 in Des Moines, Iowa, and wrap up on August 30 in Memphis, Tennessee.
