The Cranberries started in Limerick, Ireland, in 1989, formed by lead singer Dolores O’Riordan, guitarist Noel Hogan, bassist Mike Hogan, and drummer Fergal Lawler. The band became one of the most successful alternative rock bands of the ’90s, with hits like ‘Zombie,’ ‘Linger,’ and ‘Dreams.’

They continued making music together until 2018 when O’Riordan was found dead in a London hotel. Following her death and a post-humous release, ‘In the End,’ the remaining members decided to disband. Some of them stayed in the industry to this day though little to no updates on their whereabouts went public.

After The Cranberries ended, Mike Hogan stepped away from the public eye. In 2019, he attended a ceremony at the University of Limerick, where he and his bandmates received honorary doctorates. He accepted an award on behalf of Fergal Lawler, who couldn’t attend.

A year later, he and Noel shared the news of their mother’s passing. “It is with deep sadness that we announce that our dear loving mother Anne passed away last night after a short illness,” they wrote on social media. Since then, there have been no public updates about his personal or professional life. He has remained out of the spotlight, keeping his life private.

Unlike his brother, Noel Hogan stayed active in the music world. In 2020, he sold a majority stake in his songwriting catalog to Primary Wave Music Publishing. This included some of The Cranberries’ biggest songs, such as ‘Linger’ and ‘Dreams.’

He also worked on new music, collaborating with Irish singer Bronagh Gallagher on a song called ‘Crybaby’ in 2021. That same year, a book about The Cranberries, ‘Why Can’t We?,’ was released with his approval. In 2022, Noel started a new project called The Puro with Brazilian singer Mell Peck. The duo made their Irish TV debut that year, showing that he wasn’t done with music just yet.

Fergal Lawler’s Musical Career Also Continues

Fergal Lawler took a different path after The Cranberries ended. In 2022, he quietly released a solo album called ‘All Hope Is Never Lost.’ It was an instrumental project that had no major promotion, but it gave a glimpse into his creative side outside the band.

He also got involved in film and TV, making soundtracks for projects like ‘More Than a Whistle’ and ‘Hum.’ In 2024, he made a rare appearance on the ‘Curva Mundial’ podcast, where he talked about The Cranberries’ legacy and his love for football.

Since O’Riordan’s passing, the remaining members have made it clear that The Cranberries will not continue. In 2019, Noel Hogan told Rolling Stone, “It’s the end of the Cranberries and so on. I think it just brings it full circle. Everybody knows now that this is the final for us, definitely… It makes it feel like a proper ending after so long spent with this thing.”

The band’s official website echoed this, stating that while The Cranberries were over, their music would live on. Although they have released posthumous projects, such as the ‘Remembering Dolores’ album in 2021 and the ‘Wrapped Around Your Finger’ EP in 2024, there has been no talk of a reunion.
