KISS frontman Paul Stanley has responded aggressively to a fan’s criticism regarding his son Evan Stanley and Nick Simmons’ collaborative music project, Stanley Simmons. The fan had written to Stanley claiming that his son and Simmons “haven’t paid their dues,” questioning whether they earned their success or simply benefited from their famous fathers’ legacies.

Stanley’s response was pointed and dismissive of the criticism. “You clearly don’t want to accept that your own lack of talent is the reason you continue to fail at everything,” Stanley wrote. “If your father was famous you would still get nowhere because you are too busy looking enviously at others instead of looking at yourself and realizing the obvious.”

The exchange highlights ongoing skepticism about whether the sons of rock legends can succeed on their own merits. Stanley’s response directly challenges this skepticism. However, the evidence suggests that Evan Stanley and Nick Simmons are building a legitimate musical foundation independent of their fathers’ shadow.

The Stanley Simmons project began spontaneously in December 2024. According to Guitar World, Evan and Nick posted a casual Instagram cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence.” The two discovered an unexpected vocal chemistry that impressed them both. “We blended pretty well. This sounds serious,” Evan recalled, marking the beginning of what would become a serious musical endeavor by February 2025.

What started as a single cover quickly evolved into a prolific creative partnership. The duo wrote and recorded 10 original tracks—and up to 30 demos—in bedroom sessions, often completing songs in under an hour.

The musical direction of Stanley Simmons deliberately diverges from KISS’s heavy rock legacy and iconic makeup aesthetic. Instead, AXS TV reports that the project embraces modern folk with emotional storytelling, organic musicianship, and harmonious vocals. This sound represents a departure from what neither Evan nor Nick had previously pursued in their respective musical ventures. This stylistic independence suggests a genuine artistic vision rather than a simple extension of their fathers’ brand.

Evan Stanley brings substantial musical credentials to the project. He previously fronted the band Amber Wild, which opened for KISS during their 2023-2024 “End of the Road” farewell tour. Eddie Trunk notes this represents a significant touring experience that demonstrates his ability to perform at professional levels. This background shows that Evan has already begun establishing himself as a performer independent of his father’s direct involvement.

Nick Simmons brings his own diverse entertainment background to the collaboration. Beyond his music work, Nick has appeared on the reality television series “Gene Simmons Family Jewels” and has pursued a career in comics with his work on “Incarnate.” He also contributed vocals to his father’s solo album, adding production experience and vocal range to the Stanley Simmons project. Together, the two represent a new generation of musicians with both inherited connections and independently developed skills.
